Tips For Finding Work in a Hospital
By Tiffany Provost

Hospital jobs, whether in a position as doctor, nurse, or aide is a great career choice. These steps will help you on your way to getting a fulfilling position as a hospital worker.

1. Ask your teachers. A college course in Science will be necessary after high schools. While at college, make enquiries of your professors about potential work opportunities at hospitals. Explore the issue of which hospitals in your particular locality would be the best. It is quite likely that you teachers will have a lot of knowledge about how you’re your local hospitals are and which are best to steer clear of. Even better, if your teacher is still a hospital employee, you may be able to utilize them as a contact. Keep a connection with as many of your professors as possible after school, so that you have a network of acquaintances in the healthcare field to approach when you're job hunting.

2. Spread the word. Just talking to people you know is another way of finding a hospital job. Speak with anyone you can think of – old school friends, work friends, mentors or anyone who may know someone who works at a hospital. Try and find out about jobs that are going and have plenty of copies of your CV ready. Get your friends or colleagues to pass your CV on to the right people on your behalf. If your name is on the top of people’s minds, you might be more likely to be contacted when there is an opening.

3. Hook up with a professional organization. If you have a qualification as health care provider, you will likely already belong to a few professional organizations. Use the benefits of membership in local and country-wide organizations to find yourself a position in a hospital. Your membership will allow you to access websites. Also by networking with other healthcare professionals, you may have more chance of getting a position by who you know. The more you can get your name out there, the better your chances of a hospital job falling in your lap.

4. Become a volunteer. Think about volunteering when you have finished your course, if you are able to afford the time and lack of income. The value you will gain from the hands-on experience will go a little way to making up for the lack of money. If you become a familiar face in the corridors, it will give you a great advantage when a job opportunity comes up at that hospital.
