Scheduling For the Home School Summer
By Cheryl G Burke
Home schooling is year round, learning how to use this idea and develop it into a tool is a great way to take advantage of the time you spend with your kiddos. During the Winter, it a bit easier to get the kids to sit down for school time, obviously they are not chomping at the bit to get out in the rain, (now snow might pose a different problem).
Summers however, seem to be a bit different when it comes to sitting down to school work, so, find the time that best fits the schedule of your day yet still gets their work done. Don't over schedule the time you set for, at the desk learning! Remember, your entire goal here, is to teach the kiddos, for their best. Don't fall into the routine your best friend does with her kiddos, if it doesn't work for you!
Ask yourself if the schedule you have adopted is working for you. If you see yourself struggling to get them to sit and do their paperwork, try creative time schedules. For most, working in the morning at their desk, works best. Your household, however, may be one that afternoons work for, or evenings may shout for attention from your family! The idea is to find what works and works best, for your children.
Remember, it will never be necessary to do formal school work for more than a couple hours each day! You can accomplish the education public school attendees receive in less than that. So don't go overboard on the rules to sit for longer times. Don't use school as an excuse to keep the kids in the chair and out of your hair! It is for leaning, that we choose to home school, not for punishment!
