Two Attitudes That Will Help Or Hinder Your Ability to Practice Guitar

Let's look at the important topic of "Do I Really Have To Practice?"

Of course the answer to this question will always be a resounding YES. What some guitar players fail to realize, including myself when I first started out, is that there are many different attitudes of practicing guitar that will help shape or hinder your learning experience on the guitar. Let's look at two attitudes that will help or hinder you when you engage in learning your guitar.

1. A positive beginner attitude of practice.

2. An arrogant attitude of practice.

1. A positive beginner attitude of practice: If there's one thing in common when a guitar player gets there first guitar is that you find them eagerly wanting to learn and practice as much as possible. This is where you will find the new guitar player living the dream of practicing the guitar whenever and wherever.

The next challenge for a new guitar player is to keep up the enthusiasm of practicing guitar and learning the proper skills necessary to learn guitar for the long term which can be done by keeping positive attitude and applying some practice principles such as practicing a minimum of 2 times a week for 30 minutes or a maximum of 5 times a week for 1 to 2 hours a week.

The next attitude a guitar player can demonstrate is a not so pleasant attitude, however, it must be dealt with in order to not hinder your guitar learning experience.

2 An arrogant attitude of practice: This is where most guitar players get into trouble with there guitar playing. I call this the challenge of "Having enough knowledge on the guitar to be dangerous." Another way of explaining this attitude is "Learning just enough to get by."

The guitar is one of those instruments that if you want to just learn the basics; you can learn to play beginner guitar within one to three months of consistent practice.

What sometimes happens at this point to guitar players is that the practice schedule begins to dwindle, and the next thing you know the solid practicing guitar player begins to practice less and less thinking that occasional bursts of practice energy is all that is needed to learn guitar...Sadly, this where a guitar player who could really become amazing becomes a average guitar player thinking that they're better than everyone else, when there not.

It's your choice as to which attitude you decide to follow. It's my hope that you choose the first attitude and not the second attitude. By choosing to have a positive beginner attitude of practice you will end up learning very quickly how to play guitar in a snap.
